Woman Fatally Injured in Airport Baggage Carousel Entanglement

Officials said that a woman who became entangled in a baggage carousel at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Thursday morning passed away.

The Chicago Police Department stated that the woman, whose identity has not yet been made public, was 57 years old.

A Department of Labor representative stated that the woman was a member of the public, not an employee of the airport.

In response to complaints of a woman who was “pinned in machinery,” emergency personnel were dispatched to Terminal 5 at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered the woman “entangled in the conveyer belt system used to move baggage,” according to fire officials.

At the site, medical personnel declared the woman deceased. The woman was seen “entering an unoccupied restricted area at 2:27 a.m.” according to police surveillance footage of the region.

Emergency personnel were summoned to the location after she was found at around 7:30 a.m., according to the police. The Chicago Police Department is conducting an investigation into the area, which has been designated a crime scene.
