Wrong-Way Crash Claims Driver's Life on Busy I-75

Punta Gorda resident, age 21, was driving in the wrong direction near mile marker 137 on Interstate 75 when she was involved in a terrible accident that resulted in her death. The event took place early on Thursday morning.

At approximately 1:54 in the morning, state troopers were dispatched to the location.

A report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol indicates that the young woman was driving her vehicle in the southbound lanes while headed north when it collided with a Nissan that was approaching from the opposite direction.

As a consequence of the collision between the front of the Kia and the Nissan, the Kia managed to catch fire following the collision.

Unfortunately, the woman did not make it through the collision and was considered to be deceased at the scene of the accident.

The driver and passenger of the Nissan, both of whom were from Clearwater and were 59 years old, sustained serious injuries as their vehicle came to a stop south of State Road 82.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an investigation into the collision is now being carried out.
