A young person in Hialeah, Florida, is currently under investigation after their mother was discovered deceased in a residence last Thursday.
The Hialeah Police Department received a call from the teenager admitting to the act, stating that they had just taken their mother’s life.
The incident occurred at 211 West 79th Place around 11:30 p.m. EDT. Upon arriving, officers found the woman, aged 39, deceased beside a crib. Thankfully, an infant only 14 days old was found unharmed inside the crib.
The woman, identified as Irina Garcia, was named in an arrest report obtained by WSVN. Hialeah Police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez expressed the collective disbelief of the community, stating, “Right now, we’re all in disbelief.” Rodriguez added, “He called right away; he called after he did it and pretty much turned himself in over the phone, I guess you could say.”
Upon police instruction, the teenager exited the house with their hands raised when officers arrived at the scene, as reported by WSVN. Rodriguez went on to say, “Now that 13-year-old has been taken into custody, he is facing some very serious charges.”
According to an arrest report obtained by WTVJ, the teenager allegedly confessed to investigators that they had attacked their mother while she was asleep. They purportedly took pictures of the aftermath and shared them with a friend on social media, confessing to the act.
The teenager is reportedly an eighth-grade student at iMater Academy in Hialeah. Police stated that they are anticipated to face a second-degree murder charge, as reported by WTVJ. Investigators are currently working to ascertain the motive behind this tragic event. It has been mentioned by the news outlet that there is consideration of charging the teenager as an adult.
