A man from North Miami is facing numerous charges after being accused of sexually abusing four young girls over a span of several years.
Edgar Augusto Gamez, 52, was apprehended on Tuesday on 161 individual charges of engaging in inappropriate and indecent behavior with a child, as indicated by Miami-Dade jail records.
According to the arrest reports, the alleged incidents occurred at a residence where Gamez had been living for approximately two decades.
All four victims stated that they were subjected to similar forms of abuse, typically after Gamez enticed them into his room with the promise of candy, the reports detailed.
One victim, a relative of the apartment’s owner, disclosed that she was abused by Gamez between 2010 and 2013, when she was between 6 and 9 years old, according to the reports.
Another victim, who is also related to the apartment’s owner, mentioned that she visited the residence several times between 2013 and 2015 and was abused by Gamez on at least two occasions when she was between 6 and 8 years old, the reports stated.
Yet another victim, who also resided in the building with her family, stated that she was subjected to abuse on multiple occasions between 2011 and 2014, when she was between 5 and 8 years old, the reports outlined.
This girl claimed that Gamez touched her at least once a week, the reports added.
A fourth girl, who spent time at the residence in 2020, revealed that she was abused by Gamez on two separate occasions when she was 6 years old, according to the reports.
Gamez was taken into custody on Tuesday and was arrested after he chose to remain silent, the reports noted.
Jail records indicated that Gamez was being held without bond as of Wednesday. Information about his attorney was not available.
