An 18-year-old man from Winthrop Harbor, Illinois is expected to be extradited from Wisconsin to face murder charges in connection with the shooting deaths of two 18-year-old women in Waukegan.
The authorities are describing the crime as domestic-related.
According to Waukegan police, the two victims were fatally shot on Thursday evening while inside a vehicle parked in a lot on Washington Street.
The police swiftly identified a suspect who had fled the scene with another person.
The suspect, Jonathan Stinnette, was reportedly in a relationship with one of the shooting victims, as stated by the police.
During the investigation, law enforcement recovered a 9-millimeter handgun and several shell casings of the same caliber at the crime scene.
Stinnette was apprehended later in Kenosha, Wisconsin, according to the police. He is now facing multiple counts of first-degree murder in Lake County.
In a prepared statement, Mayor Ann Taylor expressed her condolences and described the incident as an isolated domestic incident.
The Waukegan community joins the victims’ families in mourning the loss of these two 18-year-old individuals, whose identities have not been publicly disclosed.
