COCONUT CREEK, Fla. — The Coconut Creek Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a robbery and sexual assault incident that occurred on Wednesday at the Fern Forest Natural Area.
At approximately 1:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to Lyons Road within the Fern Forest Natural Area in response to a report of a robbery and sexual assault.
The victim, a 53-year-old woman, informed the officers that she had been walking alone on one of the trails when a man robbed her and sexually assaulted her.
Fortunately, the woman did not sustain any physical injuries during the incident. However, the perpetrator had already fled the scene by the time the officers arrived.
Detectives are actively pursuing various leads that have emerged during the investigation, and they have identified a person of interest. Nonetheless, no arrests have been made at this point.
The police department advises residents to walk with a companion whenever possible. Additionally, it is recommended to inform someone about your intended walking route and the estimated duration of your outing.
