MIAMI, Fla. — After evading authorities for 12 years, a man wanted on child pornography charges has been apprehended in Spain and brought back to Miami to face justice.
Carlos Blanco, aged 71 at the time of his initial arrest, was originally apprehended by federal law enforcement on November 3, 2010.
He faced charges of possessing and distributing child pornography, and it was expected that he would plead guilty during his court appearance scheduled for February 24, 2011. However, Blanco failed to appear in court as expected.
Consequently, a judge issued an arrest warrant, and on February 25, 2011, Blanco was officially declared a fugitive.
After more than a decade of eluding capture, Blanco was finally located in another county in March 2023. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that he had been arrested in Spain based on a request from the U.S. Department of Justice Criminal Division’s Office of International Affairs (OIA).
Subsequently, Blanco agreed to be extradited back to the United States, where he had been living in Spain since July 2022.
This week, Blanco made his initial appearance in a Miami federal court after being transported from Spain, where he was apprehended upon the request of the U.S. government. Now, he will face the child pornography charges that have been pending for over a decade.
