A recent survey by Quinnipiac University shows that President Biden is leading over former President Trump in Pennsylvania, a key state that Trump won in 2020. According to the poll, Biden has 49 percent support, while Trump has 46 percent among voters in Pennsylvania.
This 3-point lead is a change from the October poll, where Trump had 47 percent and Biden had 45 percent in Pennsylvania. In another poll from Franklin & Marshall College in the same month, Biden was ahead by 2 points.
Biden won Pennsylvania in 2020 after Trump’s victory in 2016. The president has a strong connection to the state, often visiting for important events, considering it a second home. First lady Jill Biden is from the Philadelphia area.
Biden is scheduled to travel to Pennsylvania on Friday, focusing on a speech about his economic agenda in the Allentown area.
In the recent Quinnipiac poll, when including independent and Green Party candidates, Biden had 41 percent support, Trump had 39 percent, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (independent) had 11 percent, Jill Stein (Green Party) had 4 percent, and Cornel West (independent) had 2 percent.
Among Republican primary candidates in Pennsylvania, Trump led with 61 percent, Nikki Haley had 14 percent, and Ron DeSantis had 10 percent. This is the first Quinnipiac poll where Haley has numerically surpassed DeSantis.
Nationally, aggregated polls by Decision Desk HQ and The Hill show Trump with a 1.2 percentage point lead over Biden.
The Quinnipiac survey was conducted from January 4 to 8, with 1,680 Pennsylvania voters, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
