A man who had been charged with killing a lady in North Carolina was apprehended following a fast-paced pursuit through Mississippi.

Following a high-speed pursuit with Mississippi Highway Patrol officers on Interstate 59 near Dixie, Freddy Renteria, 25, was taken to the hospital on Thursday with a gunshot wound that he had self-inflicted, according to WDAM in Hattiesburg.

After a woman was discovered in a hospital with a “life-threatening” condition, Renteria became wanted in North Carolina. Later on, the girlfriend of Renteria passed away in the hospital.

Renteria was named by the police as the woman’s death suspect. Initially, he was accused of attempting first-degree murder. Upon the woman’s death, those accusations were elevated to murder.
