Strong Words from Biden on Israel's Gaza Operations 'Over the Top'

At a White House press conference on Thursday, President Joe Biden referred to Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza as “over the top.”

The president elaborated on his efforts to provide help to Gaza in response to reporters’ yells for it, adding that the carnage there “has to stop.”

“There are a lot of innocent people who are starving. A lot of innocent people in trouble and dying. And it has to stop,” Biden stated.

Biden’s endorsement of Israel’s recent actions in the Gaza Strip has drawn criticism from the left wing of the Democratic Party. His condemnation of the United States’ Middle Eastern ally on Thursday was among his harshest to yet.

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the president of Egypt continued that, “initially… did not want to open up the gate to allow humanitarian material to get in, I talked to him. I convinced him to open the gate.”

A critic of Israel’s actions in retaliating against Hamas, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), stated of Biden’s remark, “A just war still needs to be weighed justly.”

The special counsel report, which was made public on Thursday and supports the Justice Department’s decision not to prosecute Biden for improperly handling classified documents, was the president’s primary topic of discussion during the press conference.
