According to authorities, a 19-year-old Kissimmee men was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon when troopers discovered packages of marijuana in his vehicle.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a trooper driving north on US-27 and Posner Blvd. noticed a silver 4-door sedan with completely tinted windows below the AS-1 line and dark tinted windows.
Authorities say that at roughly 12:30 p.m., the trooper pulled over and approached the driver’s side of the vehicle.
According to FHP, the trooper was unable to see into the back of the car, so he ordered the driver—later identified as Joan Omar Torres—to lower the back windows. According to the arrest report, the trooper observed a strong scent of fresh marijuana emanating from inside the automobile when he spoke with Torres.
When the tropper asked Torres if he had a medicinal marijuana card, he replied that he did not.
Authorities claim that the trooper asked Torres and his passenger, an 18-year-old lady, to exit the car.
Per officials, Torres and his travel companion were taken into custody. According to FHP, Torres acknowledged that the bulge in his left pocket during the trooper’s patdown was marijuana.
Additionally, other marijuana-related bits were discovered by troopers inside the car’s driver’s and passenger’s sides, and an empty black plastic bag with a marijuana-like odor was discovered in the back seat.
According to FHP, there were two gray trash bags in the trunk that contained black plastic bags that were vacuum-sealed and contained an object. Troopers discovered a “green leafy substance” in Zip lock bags bearing various labels, including “15 Gelato 3 cherry + 332 gms,” “LCG,” “MF,” “PLUTO,” “GELATTO 44,” and “WHITE FUNTZ.”
The material tested positive for more than 1% delta-9 THC, according to the authorities.
Officials said there was 4.75 pounds of marijuana.
Troops report that Torres claimed he was unaware that marijuana was in his car and that the only marijuana he owned was what was in his pocket after being informed of his rights.
Torres’ driving privileges were also found to be suspended by the police.
After being informed of her rights, the passenger informed the police that she had no idea where the narcotics originated from or whose marijuana it was.
Authorities think that the marijuana was packaged for retail sales. Following his arrest, Torres was brought to the Polk County Jail.
He is charged with multiple offenses, including manufacturing, delivering, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of marijuana over 20 grams, and driving with a suspended license.
