After Joe Biden seemed to nod off on the first day of Donald Trump’s historic criminal trial in New York, Jimmy Kimmel has turned one of the president’s most frequent attacks on the former vice president against the latter.
Court reporters who were present in the courtroom on Monday for the first day of Mr. Trump’s hush money trial reported that the former president occasionally seemed as though he was having difficulty keeping his eyes open during the proceedings. Some even went so far as to suggest that he had fallen asleep.
The rumors that Mr. Trump dozed off have been sharply refuted by his team, which has labeled them as “100% fake news.” However, social media users have taken advantage of the reports and have given the 77-year-old the new moniker “Sleepy Don.”
The irony of Mr. Trump nodding off during his court appearance was brought up by Kimmel on his late-night show. Mr. Trump has been known to refer to President Biden as “Sleepy Joe” for his numerous stumbles.
“If Biden is ‘Sleepy Joe,’ I guess that makes you Doze-O the Clown,” Mr Kimmel stated.
“Imagine if Joe Biden fell asleep in the court on the first day of his trial,” he continued. “Trump would be calling him ‘Comatose Joe.”
Mr. Kimmel did see a benefit, though.
“It’s nice to see even Donald Trump is exhausted by Donald Trump,” he stated.
On Monday, when jury selection began, Mr. Trump became the first US president in history to go on trial.
For allegedly fabricating business documents to hide hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, he is charged with 34 felonies. It is reported that he gave Ms. Daniels $130,000 in return for her silence over an affair from 2006.
In two more criminal cases, the former president is charged with plotting to rig the 2020 election results, and in a third instance, he is accused of holding onto confidential papers. Trump disputes every accusation made against him.
