Outrage as Congressional Black Caucus Labels Greene's George Floyd Remarks 'Unhinged

The 46-year-old Black man George Floyd was killed by a white Minneapolis police officer in 2020. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) recently made remarks in which she said Democrats worshipped Floyd. The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has denounced these remarks.

After Monday’s House subcommittee hearing on the origins of COVID-19, Greene addressed a gathering of media and voiced her displeasure with remarks made by Representative Jamie Raskin (D-Md.).

“We have Jamie Raskin in there accusing us of worshiping Trump, worshiping a convicted felon,” Greene stated.

Greene brought up Floyd in response to a reporter pointing out that the former president was found guilty of 34 felonies on Thursday, making him a convicted felon in reality.

“Yeah, so was George Floyd, and everybody — and you all too, the media — worship George Floyd. Democrats worship George Floyd. There were riots burning down the f—ng country over George Floyd,” Greene retorted.

Global demonstrations erupted in 2020 following Floyd’s death. In light of the disproportionate number of Black Americans who are slain by police every year, advocates demanded swift police reform.

Greene continued, expressing her contempt for the late Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Disease, and concluded by saying she was “sick and tired of the bulls–t antics” of the Democratic Party.

However, Greene highlighted her words regarding Floyd in the social media footage she posted of her speech.

“I’m tired of Democrat antics claiming Republicans worship Donald Trump. I worship God!” Greene stated on X.

The Congressional Black Caucus was swiftly alerted to her tweet on Tuesday.

Although Floyd had a history of primarily minor drug charges, he passed away as a result of a white police officer kneeling on his neck for more than nine minutes.

Video footage from that time shows Floyd telling the nearby officers over and over again that he was having trouble breathing.

The police officers engaged in the encounter were charged after his death.

Floyd’s rights were violated when Derek Chauvin, the cop who kneeled on his neck, was found guilty and given a sentence of more than 20 years.

Floyd’s murder was committed four years ago this past month, and to commemorate the occasion, members of the CBC reintroduced the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
