Police stated that two males were detained on Thursday in connection with the death of a 12-year-old girl who was last seen on surveillance tape with her before her body was discovered in a Houston creek earlier this week.

According to authorities, Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, 21, and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, are both accused of capital murder in connection with the death of Jocelyn Nungaray. According to the medical examiner, strangulation was the cause of her death.

It was unknown if the two suspects had legal representation prior to speaking. As of Thursday afternoon, their names were not in any jail or court records.

Early on Monday morning, Jocelyn’s body was discovered in a creek’s shallow waters. She reportedly sneaked out of her nearby home the previous evening, according to the police.

Surveillance film, according to the police, showed the males getting together with Jocelyn before they strolled to a convenience shop together.

According to the authorities, the three of them then strolled over to the bridge where Jocelyn was killed. Police stated it was unknown at this time whether Jocelyn knew the housemates.

Police stated that the victim’s medical findings about the sexual assault are still waiting.

On Tuesday, police made public images from the two men’s surveillance footage; at the time, they were being referred to as persons of interest.
