A few days after the ransomware attack that targeted Patelco Credit Union, details regarding the resources available to members are becoming clearer.
The credit union announced that it was necessary to close down several daily banking services, such as online banking and the mobile app, in a statement that was shared on social media on Sunday. These systems included electronic transactions including transfers, direct deposits, and payments as well as access to the online portal.
In an update on Wednesday, CEO Erin Mendez, who has been providing members with updates every day, stated that although they are still looking into the incident, members’ “money is safe and secure.”
While the sites will be closed on July 4th, the contact center, 800-358-8228, will be operating on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended wait periods are typical.
Mendez stated in a message distributed to members on Wednesday, “Unfortunately, we do not anticipate having our systems up and running this weekend.”

Members are unable to utilize Zelle, online banking, or outgoing wire transfers, however they are able to use Venmo and Paypal. Car transactions with debit or card may have “limited functionality,” according to Patelco. Check HERE for all updates as well as what members may and cannot utilize.
Additionally, the credit union stated that members who fail to make payments on loans obtained through Patelco during system outages will not face penalties, fees, or other negative consequences.
