Illinois State Police reported that two distinct shootings on Chicago’s expressways on Wednesday resulted in two fatalities and one injury.

Investigating whether or if one of the shootings was motivated by road rage is a task for the authorities.

Just after two in the morning, according to Illinois State Police, shots were fired on the northbound ramp of Interstate 55 leading to the southbound ramp of Interstate 94 at Halsted Street.

ISP reported that upon arriving at the site of a single-car collision, they discovered one victim fatally shot inside a maroon minivan.

After hours of traffic jams caused by the investigation, troopers eventually reopened the road shortly after 8:30 a.m. The Stevenson Expressway’s incoming lanes were completely blocked close to the Dan Ryan ramp that leads south.

A throng of people was once observed close to the investigation. Their relationship to individuals involved in the shooting is unclear.

Just after 2:30 in the morning, state police in the city’s Far South Side looked into a probable shooting incident involving road rage near Stoney Island Avenue and 95th Street.

According to ISP, a tow truck driver responded to a two-car collision by stopping to help, but before an argument could turn violent, shots were fired.

A witness claimed that the violence might have started as a result of a rock or stone falling onto the road.

According to the witness, “Everybody ran into it, and I guess another guy in an SUV ran into a truck. And he was mad, and he thought the tow truck people put the brick there. So, he got out of his car, and started shooting at them. So they started returning back their fire.”

One individual, according to the authorities, passed away at the site, and the other was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center. The status of the injured party is unknown.

As state police continue their investigations into the violence, traffic was moving again.

State police report that there have been 101 shootings on Illinois’s highways and motorways in the past 12 months, the vast majority of which have occurred in Cook County.

When compared to the preceding three years, the figure reflects a 52% drop. The identities of the victims are all unknown.

Twelve individuals have lost their lives in Illinois’s highway or interstate shootings in the past year, including those who perished on Wednesday.
