A suspect who has been linked to the disappearance of his 14-year-old niece has been detained by the FBI in Mexico.
According to the FBI’s Salt Lake City field office, on June 30, Antonio Moreno, 31, who had been residing in Kaysville, Utah, for the previous three years, suddenly left for Mexico with his niece and two kids, aged four and six. Before departing with the kids, Moreno did not get their moms’ consent.
According to a press release from the FBI, all three girls were discovered safely by Mexican authorities in Veracruz, Mexico, on Friday night at around 9:30 p.m. The girls were discovered with Moreno as well.
Moreno’s daughters are Mexican nationals, and his niece is an American citizen.

The FBI claims that Moreno is wanted on federal arrest warrants for offenses including kidnapping connected to his niece’s disappearance.
“The extradition process will be initiated to bring Moreno back to the United States to answer for those charges,” the FBI stated.
The FBI stated in a press release that it thought Moreno and the three girls were traveling together before the girls were discovered. The FBI claimed to have seen the three girls getting into a taxi on Mexican surveillance footage and expressed the belief that Moreno may have coerced the niece into doing the same.
