Residents of Washington state and California were arrested on Monday by authorities from several Wisconsin counties. The suspects were charged with selling counterfeit jewelry and stopping cars for cash.
A man in a black SUV approached someone on May 30 at a petrol station on Highway 64, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect offered to sell the victim’s jewels and claimed he was out of gas. He also said he needed money.
Authorities claimed the man made a remark they believed to be threatening, and the victim reported seeing a pistol. After the jewelry was traded in, the person realized it was a fake and didn’t include any precious metals, according to the organization.
Following a similar event on June 4, the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office issued a statewide crime alert.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office stated on July 16, more than a month later, that a comparable incident had occurred the day before close to Readstown.
