Following an armed standoff in Portage County involving a man who is suspected of shooting a Sauk County deputy, five persons are charged with sheltering or assisting a felon, according to a criminal complaint.

The complaint lists the following five suspects in detail:

  • Brodee Voelker, 29, of Gurnee, IL
  • Thomas Decarlo, 20, of Ashland
  • Brandon Laux, 34, of Plover
  • Edward Deyo, 61, of Amherst
  • Chrissy Miller, 43, of Amherst

According to the complaint, Jeffrey Edward Miller, 32, was wanted for attempted murder after engaging in a fast-paced pursuit outside of Baraboo at 11 p.m. on July 23 and firing a rifle at law enforcement. The deputy from Sauk County received a minor injury to his arm due to shooting.

According to the complaint, Jeffrey Miller ran into the neighboring woods, and the area was under a shelter in place order for a number of hours.

Authorities traced Jeffrey Miller’s social media profiles to an IP address at Deyo’s residence, which is located in the Village of Amherst on the 400 block of Mill Street.

A investigator found that on Wednesday, July 24, a lady allegedly drove Miller and an unidentified guy to a Coloma gas station, where Deyo allegedly picked them up.

On Thursday, July 25, authorities installed surveillance at Deyo’s residence and observed Jeffrey Miller and the other suspects there.

A no-knock warrant was obtained by authorities for the residence on Thursday night, and they erected an armored car as part of their perimeter. Miller was not among the five suspects who were taken into custody after they gave the order for everyone inside to leave the house.

Miller allegedly fired several times at law enforcement throughout the standoff and refused to leave the house.

The paper states that the complaint was written while Miller was still residing in the house. When the standoff finally came to a conclusion, police authorities declared Miller to be no longer a threat.

Following the end of the standoff, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday that a death investigation was now underway. The government claimed it could not clarify and did not say if Miller was the deceased person. A allegation of attempted homicide against Miller was dropped, according to court documents, on July 26.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that no law enforcement personnel discharged their guns. On Friday, July 26, all five accused made an appearance in court. Their bonds are $5,000 to $75,000, the greatest amount being that of Deyo.

Both Chrissy Miller and Laux have posted bond as of Tuesday morning at 11 a.m.
