Authorities say that last Saturday, while a crowd of scared bystanders saw the tragedy unfold in the middle of a street, a man from Pennsylvania fatally and repeatedly stabbed his mother.

In connection with the death of Diana Rebold, 73, on Sunday, Brian Rebold, 38, is charged with both first-degree murder and criminal homicide.

The 911 call is purportedly made by the defendant. A number of witnesses were purportedly able to verify specifics of the dispute that resulted in an assault and an incredibly violent case of suspected matricide.

The incident happened at Arnold, a small community in the extreme northeast of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, which is situated along the Allegheny River.

On August 4, at around 5:38 p.m., the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office received a report from Arnold Police Department officers regarding a man stabbing a woman.

A press release stated that the victim was identified as “the suspect’s mother” and that she was discovered “lying unresponsive in the street and bleeding profusely from her head.” She had been stabbed several times in the skull and was declared dead at the site of the crime.

By day’s end, the 100 block of Liberty Avenue, where the 91-year-old mother was found dead, was packed with police cruisers from the neighboring New Kensington Police Department and neighborhood fire trucks.

Charisse Campise, who lives in a home on the block where the homicide took place, told Pittsburgh-based ABC station WTAE, “I saw the lights, and then I saw her body lying on the ground covered, and I just started screaming hysterically to my husband. The other day I had seen him out there yelling, but apparently him and his mother got into an argument and this is what ended up happening”

By the time police came, the victim’s son had been smeared in blood, according to the authorities. He was apprehended without any problems very soon.

Even while authorities haven’t revealed the exact reason behind the woman’s death, Brian Rebold has come clean about stabbing his mother to death, repeatedly cutting her back and throat, according to the prosecution.

Additionally, the defendant is accused of telling police where the murder weapon was hidden—it was only thrown into the front yard of a different neighbor. Investigators subsequently found the murderous knife.

The fight between the victim and her alleged killer, according to another homeless person, was unusual.

“I didn’t notice any problems between them. I never heard any arguing,” Steve Mobley, the neighbor next door stated. “I had spoken to him before and I thought there was something a little off about him. But I don’t know what it is and I just assumed that he needed care.”

“There was apparently arguing from witnesses around the area which then (went) into the street and that’s where they located them both,” Arnold Police Chief Josh Stanga stated.

Diana Rebold’s cause and manner of death have still to be determined by an autopsy, according to a public information report about her. Without being granted bond, the defendant is being held at the Westmoreland County Jail. He was charged early on Monday, and the case’s preliminary hearing is presently scheduled for August 15.
