Some weeks after a horrific boat crash in Hingham Bay, a 70-year-old woman has died and another victim is currently in critical condition in the hospital.
Patricia Cicalese of East Walpole passed away on September 7, according to the office of Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey on Tuesday. The identity of the other injured victim is unknown.
Investigators said that on August 16 at 12:43 p.m., near Grape Island, a 21-foot Pisces sailboat and a 38-foot Sea Ray speedboat collided. The Massachusetts Environmental Police, Hingham, and Weymouth first responders raced to the scene of the collision.
When the sailboat crashed in Hingham Bay, it sunk. That day’s SkyEye film shows the sailboat nearly entirely submerged.
Ray Suarez, the captain of a water taxi, witnessed the collision’s aftermath.
“We saw the mast just sticking out of the water. There was a lot of state police and salvage boats trying to figure out what to do with it,” Suarez previously stated. “Sailboats generally go very slow, and powerboats generally go very fast. So, somebody obviously wasn’t paying attention because they hit the boat so hard that they sank it, and that’s not a common occurrence.”
Bill Norton, a lifelong boater, could see the boat’s mast from his home.
“Sailboat has the right of way over a powerboat, every time,” he stated.

The Hingham Bay boat collision is still being looked into
On Tuesday, the district attorney remained silent regarding the identity of the speedboat’s operator.
