Authorities in Texas have detained a guy who entered the country through a federal immigration program in connection with the death of a 25-year-old woman in Cleveland, Tennessee.

After a multistate manhunt, Dayren Roque Lopez, 41, of Cuba, was captured on Monday in Zavala County, Texas. Dayana Garcia’s body was discovered at a Cleveland home on Sunday, and he is charged with her murder.

Following receipt of a missing person report, Cleveland Police Department authorities claimed they found Garcia’s body at 315 Northcrest Circle while carrying out a search warrant.

After receiving a tip to search for Lopez’s car, Zavala County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended the fugitive from Tennessee.

When deputies carried out a criminal traffic check in La Pryor, Texas, they discovered a 2008 brown Toyota Corolla with Tennessee license plates.

According to sources, Lopez used the CBP One app—a smartphone application for specific immigration procedures—to enter the country on August 5, 2023, via San Ysidro, California. His appearance in immigration court was slated to take place in Memphis in November.

Lopez was granted permission to stay in the country despite a February domestic abuse incident since there was no conviction, according to the authorities. In response to the arrest, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., claimed that Lopez had infiltrated because of a misguided border policy.
