The government claims that on Monday, a crew from the U.S. Coast Guard unloaded a multi-million dollar cargo of pharmaceuticals at Port Everglades.
Over 4,000 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $54 million on the black market were found in the Caribbean Sea. The cocaine had to be unloaded by Coast Guard Cutter Diligence sailors.
The Coast Guard, American Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations, and the Royal Navy of Britain conducted three distinct interdictions that led to the seizure.
11 smugglers were also taken into custody, according to a Coast Guard news release.
Lt. Matthew Carmine, the commanding officer of Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Napier, which took part in the operation, stated in the news release that “their steadfast efforts, along with those of foreign allies and partner agencies, continue to prove vital to countering drug trafficking organizations and safeguarding the people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.”

Nearer to the coast, on Friday, federal investigators reported that they had apprehended 27 individuals in a significant raid of cocaine trafficking, among them the owner of a boat racing team in South Florida.
