WPBN: After allegedly being pursued for four miles by a trucker who subsequently crashed into the family vehicle, a woman from Memphis has been found dead, and her child was battling for their life at the time of the investigation.
AĀ highway quarrel developed into a four-mile chase that concluded in a violent end in the 100 block of Emmaus Way, according to WREG, which stated that the terrible occurrence took place on Sunday just after 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
“Two vehicles were side-by-side. One of them cut the other one off what we could get so far, and the pickup began following the car,” Hardin County Sherrif Johnny Alexander stated. “They tried to get home or get a residence, and thatās when the incident occurred.”
When the tragedy took place, Zoe Johnson, who was 24 years old, her fiance, and their two daughters were traveling down Highway 64 which is located just east of Savannah, according to the Sheriff. It was reported by Alexander that the truck followed the vehicle until it reached Emmaus Way, at which point the driver opened fire, resulting in the death of Johnson and the injury of one of her daughters.
Johnson, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was reportedly shot in the back, while her daughter was shot in the arm, according to the allegations made by the police.
“When officers arrived, they found two victims that had been injured by a gunshot. They did medical care on them until EMS arrived and got them out of the scene,” Alexander stated to WBBJ-TV. “During the investigation, we ended up finding a suspect that had fired the shots into the vehicle.”
It was only three hours, according to the authorities, that they were able to locate Clint Newton, who was 43 years old and was detained and charged with second-degree murder. Alexander claimed that they were able to retrieve Newton because a number of witnesses were able to provide the authorities with information regarding the specifics of the vehicle.
“We picked him up on the road,” Sheriff Alexander stated. ‘We got some information from doing a canvas of the neighborhood and got some information about the vehicle, and thatās when we found the vehicle, stopped him, and took him into custody.”
