According to authorities, a 19-year-old guy was taken into custody on Monday after being seen on security footage assaulting an OB-GYN physician at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach.
Authorities claim that Ventura Del Castillo Perez was furious over the prescription that Dr. Steven Silvers gave for his mother, who was a patient of Silvers’s.
His arrest report states that Del Castillo Perez was crying and had trouble breathing when police arrived at the hospital on Monday morning.
“Defendant stated he was upset about what Doctor Silvers had prescribed his mother and wanted to advise him that he was committing malpractice and also wanted to show him his bad Yelp reviews,” according to the arrest report. “The defendant advised that he then went to the elevator to leave, and Dr. Silvers followed. The defendant stated that Dr. Silvers had his foot on the elevator door and attempted to grab his phone. The defendant stated that he then picked up the doctor and body slammed him in self-defense.”
Silvers, who was put unconscious after the incident, reportedly told authorities that he didn’t recall anything that happened, including how he got to work. He claimed that discussing his Yelp reviews with someone was the last thing he remembered.
According to police, they also spoke with another hospital medical staff member who claimed to have seen Del Castillo Perez approach Silvers on the fourth floor when she came with him.
According to officials, she claimed to have overheard Del Castillo Perez accusing the doctor of malpractice and to have witnessed the two men conversing, but she did not hear any threats.
She reportedly claimed that after that, she went into her office and heard nothing more.
According to police, they also had conversations with hospital security personnel and were shown surveillance footage that demonstrates Del Castillo Perez pulling the physician away from the elevator.
Del Castillo Perez shoved the doctor to the opposite side of the elevator after Silvers allegedly extended his arm in a “defensive manner,” according to the authorities.
“The victim is seen giving his back attempting to get away from the defendant. The defendant is then seen bear hugging the victim and slamming him on the ground,” according to the report. “The victim’s head is seen hitting the ground and the victim is then seen not moving in a prone position for over 3 minutes.”
Judge Mindy Glazer of Miami-Dade County read the suspect’s charges to Silvers and his son during their Zoom appearance in bond court this week.
Silvers told the judge about his injuries, which included a brain contusion, two fractured ribs, a swollen collarbone, a bruised temple, a damaged right eye, a hematoma on the right side of his skull, and a concussion.
“I was going to my office at 8:15 a.m. in the morning,” he stated to the judge. “I had a brief interaction with this gentleman, and then I turned to walk away and he jumped me from the back and beat me. There’s clear video at Mount Sinai Hospital that shows this.”
The doctor replied, “Absolutely,” when a prosecutor asked if he was terrified of Del Castillo Perez.

Glazer inquired, “Have you ever met the defendant before this date?.”
“No,” Silvers responded. “Evidently I cared for his mother about a month ago. I will tell you that he was waiting in the hallway pacing, waiting for me. And I know this because I had an international patient who was waiting in the area of the lobby by the elevators and she told my staff afterwards that she was very nervous. She saw this person walking up and down the hallways, up and down the hallways prior to me arriving, and in fact, when this all happened, she really didn’t even know who I was until she went into her office appointment at 9, and realized I was the doctor who was supposed to cure her.”
Del Castillo Perez is charged with both battery on an emergency medical care provider and aggravated battery. In the end, Glazer mandated that Del Castillo Perez be held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
In addition, he was told to avoid Silvers and the hospital. A division judge will hold another hearing on Wednesday to determine if Del Castillo Perez may be released from custody on bond.
