Florida Man Sentenced After Urinating on Graves and Damaging Tombstones of Homicide Victims

WPBN: After entering a guilty plea, a guy from Florida was given a term of nine months in prison for urinating on two graves and destroying the tombstones of the deceased individual.

In November, Michael Gainer III, age 21, was taken into custody, some months after the graves of Darryl Lundy Jr., age 17, and Dari’one Flanigan, age 18, were discovered to be destroyed and decorated with graffiti.

The resting places of both of them may be found in Restlawn Memorial Park, which is also referred to as Restlawn Cemeteries and Cremation Gardens, which is located in Jacksonville.

The arrest complaint states that Gainer became a suspect after he was seen in videos posted on his social media account urinating, spitting, and breaking the tombstone. Gainer was also involved in the destruction of the tombstone.

The mothers of Lundy and Flanigan, who were cousins, were each handed screenshots from the film that showed Gainer vandalizing and ruining the graves of their children.

One of the moms would visit her son’s cemetery every other day and maintain the area while she was there. That there was nothing amiss with the grave was something that she remarked during her visit on August 16th.

On August 19, officers from the Jacksonville Police Department visited the burial and assessed the damage. There was a connection between Gainer and the Instagram account that aired the viral videos.

It was alleged in the affidavit that Gainer was seen on one video “damaging the tombstone with a large rock” and “spit, urinated, and damaged the tombstone.” This information was included in the arrest file. In a different livestream, he is said to have admitted to being responsible for everything.

According to the allegations, he reportedly indicated that he did it “to get someone to respond to his statements” when the video was being shown.

Both of Gainer’s mothers positively identified him in a photo lineup that was taken in September. Gainer may be seen in the videos.

In the morning of the following day, the mother of the other youngster who had passed away was informed that her son’s grave had been vandalized the previous evening. In close proximity to one another were the graves of both of the boys.

The deaths of Flanigan and Lundy, who were both victims of gun violence, occurred three years apart, in 2019 and 2022, respectively; yet, neither of their cases has been solved.

A local news channel in Jacksonville stated that both graves were successfully reconstructed.

In the beginning, Gainer entered a plea of not guilty to two felony counts of causing damage to or removing a tomb or monument. However, he later altered his plea to guilty.

Nine months in jail, forty-two months of probation, and three hundred hours of community work cleaning graveyards were the terms of his sentencing, which was handed down on December 19th.
