WPBN: An animal neglect and cruelty complaint has been filed against a lady in Missouri after the police discovered many dogs at her residence that had been abandoned and were also underweight.
Katrina M. Bernard is accused of taking many dogs and leaving them at a residence in Lathrop, Missouri, according to a probable cause document filed in Clinton County, Missouri.
In the documents filed with the court, it is said that Bernard “knowingly failed to provide adequate care for the animals by failing to provide good and knowingly abandoned said animals.”
A complaint was received by the Lathrop Police Department on December 3, 2024, regarding a dog that was being confined in a kennel and was underweight. An officer from the Lathrop Police Department arrived to the residence.
A person who was present at the residence at the time of the officer’s arrival granted permission for the officer to view the three dogs that were present there.
Two weeks before to the incident, they said that Bernard had been residing at the residence, and they stated that she had abandoned the dog in the kennel.
After entering the residence, a member of the Lathrop Police Department noticed that there were two canines in a single kennel, and both of them appeared to be underweight. There was a third dog discovered in a bedroom located in the middle of the house, and it was confined in a kennel.
The document that was used to establish probable cause said that the dog was lying in its own feces and appeared to be terribly malnourished.

It was alleged by the person who was living in the house that Bernard had abandoned her dog when she moved out. An emergency veterinarian determined that the dog was a male yellow lab that was 2.5 years old. The dog was transferred to the emergency veterinarian.
According to the documents filed with the court, the dog weighed 18.14 pounds, which is significantly lower than the criteria of 65-80 pounds for a male Labrador retriever of that age and gender.

Humane euthanasia was performed on the dog, which was in serious condition, according to the authorities. This decision was made after it was determined by all parties concerned that it was in the canine’s best interest to be put to death.
An initial court appearance for Bernard is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, according to records that were submitted to the court in Clinton County on Monday, January 13, 2025.
