A tragic incident occurred on Friday morning on Interstate 95 in Palm Beach Gardens, resulting in the death of a 59-year-old man from Port St. Lucie.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was hit and killed while he was checking on the driver of a flipped-over vehicle.
The collision occurred a little before 5:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95, just north of PGA Boulevard.
The victim had been walking back to his car after inspecting the overturned vehicle on the highway when he was struck by a Mercedes GLE 450 driven by a 76-year-old man from Texas.
Aerial footage from WPTV Chopper 5 captured the scene showing the overturned vehicle on its side in the middle of the interstate.
Sadly, the Port St. Lucie man succumbed to his injuries at the accident site, but his identity has not been disclosed yet.
Following the incident, three southbound lanes of I-95 remained closed for several hours on Friday morning, causing traffic disruptions. However, the lanes were eventually reopened around 10:30 a.m.
