A guy was shot and killed inside a Kansas City home early Monday morning. A person of interest has been taken into custody.
Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, stated that officers rushed to the 3900 block of South Benton Avenue at approximately 9 a.m. and encountered many people who seemed to be “erratic.”
In order to conduct a search of the residence, the police requested that its occupants leave. A lifeless body with what appeared to be gunshot wounds was discovered under the stairs leading in.
The police were unable to find a pulse or any other signs of life. The emergency care technicians at the scene declared the person dead.
Detectives have spoken with a number of people who were present in the house at the time of the incident. Gonzalez said the suspect in custody knows the victim, but authorities are still trying to determine their precise relationship.
At this point, authorities do not feel there is a continuing threat to the community, and there are no further individuals of interest.
The Star’s figures show that this was the 142nd homicide in Kansas City this year; this number includes police officer fatalities. There have been 119 murders as of this time last year.
