A suspect has been identified, days after a man was found dead from gunshot wounds inside a Miami house, and police say they found out the guy was already in jail for another crime.
Larry March, 45, who has a history of mental health issues, has been charged with second-degree murder.
After a man was shot and killed inside a residence on Northeast 77th Street near Biscayne Boulevard in Miami on Friday, March appeared in court.
Since the night of September 10, when the crime was committed, authorities have gathered security footage of the getaway car and witness testimony but have been unable to identify any suspects.
A few days later, though, March and his ex-girlfriend got into an argument while driving along a crossroads in Doral, and everything changed.
After becoming enraged at his ex-girlfriend’s SMS messages, March allegedly became violent.
According to the police report, “as he was driving, he punched the victim in the face several times with his right arm, leaving several bruises on the victim’s lips, chin, and left ear.”
According to the police report, he allegedly “brandished and waved a black firearm in her direction to get her to tell the truth.”
Authorities say the lady was in constant fear until they stopped at a hotel in Hialeah, where she was able to break free and call for help.
After his capture, March was charged with violence and armed abduction.
The murder weapon was allegedly uncovered during a check of his vehicle, according to the police.
Surveillance footage allegedly shows March driving a car that matches his description, and police say his identification was discovered at the site of a killing.
A dispute over a stolen smartphone led to stabbing allegations against March and another guy earlier this year in Miami.
The confrontation was partially caught on tape.
The Pre-Trial Detention Center in Miami-Dade County is holding March without bond as of Monday.
