A Miami Teen Dials 911 After Killing His Mother

In a shocking event, a 13-year-old boy from Miami admitted to fatally stabbing his mother and then surrendered himself to the authorities. The teenager, named Derek Rosa, was promptly apprehended after making a distressing 911 call.

Upon receiving Rosa’s alarming emergency call late on Thursday night, Hialeah Police officers were dispatched to the location. Hialeah Police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez recalled, “He was prompt in calling. It was almost as if he was turning himself in over the phone,” Rosa’s demeanor during the call was noted as unusually calm, replying with “Yes, ma’am; no, ma’am.”

Upon arriving at the apartment, the police had to persistently knock before Rosa opened the door. He was then instructed to exit the apartment with his hands raised.

A nearby resident managed to record a video showing Rosa approaching the police and subsequently being restrained. Rodriguez commented that, “The disbelief among us is palpable.”

Inside the apartment, a grim scene unfolded: 39-year-old Irina Garcia, Rosa’s mother, was discovered fatally stabbed on the bedroom floor. Adding to the distressing sight, Garcia’s lifeless body was dangerously near her 14-day-old infant, Derek’s half-sister. Fortunately, the newborn was found unharmed in her crib nearby.

“Discovering a baby so close to such a grim scene is a relief. We’re grateful she was unscathed,” Rodriguez stated.

Rosa, who is now in custody, faces serious allegations. In a court appearance last Friday, he was formally accused of second-degree murder. Despite the heinous nature of the crime, Rosa’s background presents a puzzle.

Law enforcement has confirmed that he was an accomplished student at a local Charter school and displayed no prior signs of mental distress.

Rodriguez expressed the collective astonishment of the force, stating, “It’s a solemn and perplexing case. We’re currently talking to family members, hoping they might offer some insights.”

Furthermore, the police are examining Rosa’s laptop with optimism that it could yield vital information. Up to this point, Rosa has not given any explanation for the purported murder of his mother.

The community is deeply unsettled by the incident. Sandra Valdez, a neighbor, offered her condolences, stating, “It’s impossible to fathom the family’s pain.”

As the community comes to terms with this troubling occurrence, the investigation is ongoing.
