A news release stated that Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman, had a “brief surgical procedure” on Thursday to manage internal bleeding following a jet ski accident. Additionally, medical professionals were keeping an eye on additional wounds.
According to a Thursday news release issued by spokesman Harrison Adams for Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed, R-Jasper, the two-term senator was taken to the University of Alabama Birmingham hospital following a jet ski accident on Smith Lake.
Although he was listed as being in the intensive care unit, doctors claimed in the news release that the “prognosis for his recovery is good.”
In a statement released on Thursday night, Gudger’s wife, Heather, expressed gratitude to the emergency personnel.

“Everyone who knows Garlan is aware that he is a strong, tough, and energetic man who will recover from these injuries and continue serving the citizens of his district while promoting the conservative Alabama values that so many of us hold close,” she stated.
On the website of the Alabama Senate Republicans, Gudger was first elected in 2018. He has proposed laws pertaining to applications for absentee voting and mandating that certain people visit hospitals.
