Gender-affirming healthcare will be offered by Planned Parenthood at all of its Indiana facilities. Patients who are at least eighteen years old will be able to receive gender-affirming care, according to a news statement.
Planned Parenthood stated that in addition to offering the service at all of its locations, it is increasing appointment availability as a means of enhancing access to gender-affirming care.
According to Planned Parenthood, the organization decided to increase the number of gender-affirming treatment services “in response to a growing community need.” In addition, the organization stated that care that is gender affirming “allows individuals to fully embrace and affirm their true identity, empowering them to live authentically as the people they have always been.”
Over the course of the previous year, Planned Parenthood recorded a 23% rise in patient demand for gender-affirming care in Indiana.
Hormone replacement therapy, gender-affirming hair preservation, surgery coordination, and other medical transition support are some of the gender-affirming care services that the organization offers.
Patients receiving gender-affirming care from Planned Parenthood will also have access to a “GAC Navigator,” who can aid with name and gender marker changes, facilitate patient connections with healthcare providers, and support appeals of insurance denials for hormone treatment.
The medical professionals at Planned Parenthood follow the informed consent paradigm and are trained in gender-affirming care.

In a press release, the organization noted that the model allows patients to obtain hormone therapy without having a therapist’s diagnosis.
The eleven Planned Parenthood facilities in Indiana can be found in the following locations: New Albany, Bloomington, Lafayette, Merrillville, Fort Wayne, Hammond, Indianapolis, and Evansville.
