It has been confirmed by spokesman Dana Ward that the Kirkwood Plaza Acme grocery will close in November.
The store is scheduled to close on November 16 or thereabouts. It is located at 4365 Kirkwood Highway in Milltown. It has been confirmed by the pharmacy workers at the store that the pharmacy is scheduled to close earlier, on October 8.
Prescription holders have two options: they can ask another pharmacy to call in order to transfer their prescriptions, or they can redeem them at other Acme Markets stores.
Prices Corner and Pike Creek retail complexes are the closest Acme locations to Kirkwood Plaza.
The Kirkwood Plaza shutdown was blamed by Acme spokesperson Ward to “real estate considerations.” Additionally, Ward stated that the closure has nothing to do with the parent business Albertsons’ proposed mega-merger with Kroger, the grocery giant, which has been the subject of litigation and increased regulatory investigation this year.
Naturally, the first part of this year has been quite eventful for Kirkwood Plaza Acme.
In August, a tornado struck the business, stealing a portion of the roof with it. The tornado “sounded like a truck hit the front of the building,” according to customers inside the Acme at the time, and it also caused ceiling tiles to fall inside the store.
Ward said the store closure had nothing to do with the damage caused by the tornado. Rather, the primary reason for closing the Kirkwood Plaza Acme was the expiration of the store’s lease with Oekos Management, the owner of Kirkwood Plaza.

As per the Acme statement, workers at the store can be moved to available roles at other branches of the supermarket chain. Inquiries concerning the number of workers at the store were not answered by representatives.
Acme, together with its locations in Lansdale and King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, closed its doors in June 2018. 85 workers were impacted by the Dover closure.
