Authorities in Lakeland, Florida, said that a man accused of killing a 3-year-old child during an ambush shootout also unintentionally killed another suspect.
At the Polk County Jail, 30-year-old Kevarius Green is being held without bond on two counts of first-degree murder charges. According to authorities, he killed both Jaquez “JD” Norton, 3, and Kemarius Wilson, 22, as reported by Fox Tampa affiliate WTVT.
According to reports, Jaquez was traveling in a Toyota RAV4 with his mother, his 3-month-old sister, and a male family friend. They were heading out of the Cambridge Grove apartment building when a Dodge Challenger that was purportedly driven by Demarius Wilson struck them directly.
Allegedly, Green and Demarius Wilson’s twin Kemarius Wilson exited the Challenger and took up positions on either side of the RAV4. It was said that Green fired. Jaquez took four shots, one of which was to the head.
According to authorities, the male friend of the family, who managed to escape with a gunshot wound to his leg, was able to retaliate. But he did not murder Kemarius Wilson. Police said it was Green.
According to reports, Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor stated, “We had an ongoing gunbattle.”
Pilar Rivera, JD’s grandma, told WTVT, “He was like the king.” “We had never before had a boy. We were ecstatic when he arrived.
On Tuesday, Green brought himself in with his lawyer, but police were still searching for Demarius Wilson in an attempt to apprehend him for tampering with evidence.
Authorities view him as dangerous and armed. They said he had connections to Orlando, Plant City, and Lakeland.
