Following an argument about “inappropriate” social media posts, a young man is accused of shooting the father of his girlfriend. Lawan Jones, 18, is accused of fleeing the scene with the victim’s daughter, according to deputies in Broward County, Florida. However, Jones later turned himself in, and the girlfriend is safe.
Deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue went to a shooting complaint near the 1500 block of Northeast 28th Street on Monday at approximately 4:44 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Keith Bryan Poole, 44, was the victim when they discovered him suffering from several gunshot wounds.
“On scene, emergency crews located the victim, Poole, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds,” they stated. “Paramedics transported Poole to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced deceased.”
Investigators claim that Jones wrote posts on social media that Poole didn’t like, which is what caused this. They did not elaborate on the content of these posts or provide an explanation for how the dispute reportedly turned violent.
“According to witnesses, the shooting began after Poole became aware of social media posts made by Jones that he thought were inappropriate,” deputies stated. “At some point, witnesses said, Jones started arguing with Poole and shot him.”

Deputies had noted, “According to witnesses, Poole was standing outside of his residence when a subject known to him began shooting,” before identifying Jones. Detectives say the shooter fled the scene following the incident. BSO Crime Scene and Homicide Unit detectives responded and are currently investigating the fatal shooting.”
Deputies searched after Jones and his girlfriend left the scene, but on Wednesday, Jones turned himself in to the police. He is being held without bond at the Broward County jail on a charge of first-degree murder using a handgun.
