According to federal authorities, a 72-year-old man from Florida has been detained and accused of threatening to kill Representative Eric Swalwell and his kids.

Greenacres, Florida resident Michael Shapiro made his court debut on Wednesday following his apprehension that morning.

Five threatening voicemails were left by the senior person for the Democratic congressman on December 19, according to a copy of the complaint that ClickOrlando.com was able to get.

According to voicemail excerpts included in the complaint, the individual threatened to “come after you and kill you” for Swalwell.

The voicemails also alluded to Swalwell’s purported associations with a possible Chinese spy.

The House Ethics Committee, which is bipartisan, looked into his relationship with Christine Fang, a potential spy. It concluded its probe in May, at which point it did not discipline the Democrat.

Swalwell is not specifically mentioned in the Justice Department complaint, but the congressman acknowledged that Shapiro had threatened him.

“No threat is going to stop me from representing my constituents. MAGA Republicans have chosen violence over voting and this is what it looks like,” he stated on X.

“But I’m not going away and neither should you.”
