A human head washes up on a well-known Florida tourist beach.

The authorities suspect it belonged to an adult male. The head washed up on the shore of Key Biscayne, and Miami-Dade police are looking into it.

Det. Andre Martin of the Miami-Dade Police Department reported that the skull was discovered by a beach worker in Key Biscayne, Florida, at approximately 8:36 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

After informing Key Biscayne Police that the thing was a head, the worker notified the Miami-Dade police.

Authorities in Miami-Dade and Key Biscayne are awaiting the medical examiner’s office results to identify the deceased and ascertain the cause and manner of death.

According to Martin, the matter is not currently being looked into as a homicide. The remains seem to be those of an adult man as per Martin.

“At this point we’re not discounting any possibility,” he said. “This could be an accident or missing person, it’s too early to tell the circumstances.”

“What remains to be seen is where did the head come from?” Miguel Muelle, a local resident, told NBC Miami.

The medical examiner’s office is currently looking into the details of the severed head.
