Beachline Shut Down After Fatal Accident Claims Life of Orlando Man

A 22-year-old man from Orlando died in a crash that closed the Beachline in Orange County for several hours, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at around 9 a.m. when the man was driving a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta in the inside lane heading west. East of the GreeneWay, he approached a slower-moving vehicle in front of him.

According to the FHP crash report, the man tried to change lanes, crossing into the path of a 2010 Volkswagen Passat driven by a 41-year-old Orlando man in the outside lane. This caused the right rear of the Jetta to collide with the left front of the Passat.

The impact sent the Jetta off the road to the right, spinning clockwise.

The Jetta then struck a tree on its left side and ended up in a ditch, as mentioned in the report. The driver, who troopers believe wasn’t wearing a seatbelt during the crash, was declared dead at the scene.

The other Orlando man involved in the crash was unharmed and stayed at the scene, according to troopers.

Westbound traffic on the Beachline was stopped due to a roadblock, and the closure lasted until the latter part of the noon hour.
