A bakery in Bristol that was well-known for promoting social justice has closed. It closed on Saturday, the last day of operation following a tsunami of consumer service earlier this year.

“It’s sad, but we’re ready to move on to our next adventure.”

The Bakery on Maple in Bristol is currently closed. Owner Erika Stirk and her spouse dedicated three years of their lives to the company.

“We had a lot of our regulars that came to say their goodbyes, to get their last bite of sweet treats,” she stated.

Almost completely consumed treats after being snapped up by consumers.

“I had a lot of littles, young kids come in say thank you and that they were going to miss me,” she stated.

Earlier this year, Stirk was on the verge of closing her bakery, but a Facebook post saved her business.

“I’m still baffled about the amount of support we got from Bristol and surrounding towns and even across the United States. We had people reach out from Colorado and California,” Stirk stated.

The bakery was well-known for its pride flag displayed on the front of the store and its advocacy of social justice. Earlier this week, Stirk posted on Facebook that it was regretfully forced to close. She claims that as a two-person team, she and her husband could no longer manage the bakery due to the overhead expenditures.

“It’s getting to be a headache. It’s a little too much for two people to take on,” she stated.

Though Stirk acknowledges that it was a successful run, he still plans to carry on baking using a subscription box model in the future.

“You can get them delivered. We’re looking at either weekly or monthly,” she stated.

She also doesn’t regret her choice to close.

“If you have a dream, just go for it. I don’t think it’s a failure. I think we won here. We went out. We did it and we’re going to continue doing it,” Stirk stated.
