The Fudge Factory is returning on Thanksgiving, almost two months after Hurricane Helene swamped businesses in Bradenton Beach.
The sweets store on Bridge Street is owned by Benjamin Kaminecki. He is appreciative of the opportunity to greet returning clients and return staff to work.
“It feels amazing, it’s over right before Thanksgiving, it’s open for people to enjoy,” he stated.
Hurricane Helene’s storm surge in late September caused the business to flood. According to Kaminecki, there was almost five feet of water inside the business.
He misplaced chocolates, ice cream, fudge, and other items. It was also necessary to update the exhibits and equipment.
“Replaced all the sinks, all the cabinets, all the showcases, all brand new booths, everything you see in the store here is all brand new,” Kaminecki stated.
Benjamin’s daughter, Susan Amos, is also employed in the store. The reopening of businesses on the island makes her very happy.
“It’s very emotional. We literally lost everything so to be able to open as quick as we did, it’s very exciting,” Amos stated.
Making handcrafted candy canes is a 125-year-old family tradition that The Fudge Factory will once again continue, according to Kaminecki. Customers can pause and observe the entire procedure in December.
“It’s been a huge recovery. A month ago you couldn’t even drive here, the island was locked down. I felt like I was in a snow storm that didn’t melt, everything had sand,” he stated.
“Every Saturday and Sunday starting in December. The candy canes are a huge hit. We made a whole new section for the candy canes in front of the nice marble slab,” he stated.
