Budgeting Woes: Board Moves to Cut $8 Million from Disney’s Law Enforcement Overtime

Budgeting Woes Board Moves to Cut $8 Million from Disney's Law Enforcement Overtime

The board appointed by the governor to oversee Disney’s special district is taking action against the deputies hired to protect park guests.

During a meeting on Wednesday, officials revealed that the previous board had been spending $8 million annually on law enforcement overtime for Disney properties.

Now, the current board is eliminating this expenditure and cutting the $8 million used to pay law enforcement officers for off-duty shifts. They claim that the costs incurred from legal battles with Disney have forced them to seek funding from other sources.

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District manages the land known as Reedy Creek, on which Disney owns all the property. The previous board, known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District, was under the control of Disney itself.

Currently, there is a deal in place with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office until the fall of 2024.

The board stated that they have identified other areas where they can reduce spending related to Disney, but they did not specify what those areas are.
