A Mississippi police officer was taken into custody after it was reported that he was found unconscious in a patrol car with a meth pipe in his hand.

The Yazoo City Police Department reports that on Saturday at around three in the morning, police received a call regarding an automobile that was stopped at a stop sign.

When the police got on the scene, they discovered that the vehicle was a police cruiser. About 25 miles to the north, in the town of Belzoni, was where the police department owned the vehicle.

They discovered that an officer—later identified as James Lee Jackson, 41—was inside. Additionally, it looked like the policeman was holding a drug-use pipe.

He was not roused by the police’ attempts to wake him. Eventually, the police woke him up and helped him get out of the automobile. They said they found out he was in fact holding a pipe that was used to smoke methamphetamine and other drugs.

Authorities reported that during a car check, a tiny amount of marijuana was found.

According to reports, Jackson objected to authorities taking his blood or urine, and he refused to participate in any field sobriety tests. Despite appearing inebriated, he did not provide any noteworthy statements to the officers.

Jackson may be charged with further crimes in the future. The police arrested him for DUI refusal and paraphernalia possession. After being brought to the Yazoo City Jail, he has since bonded out.

Belzoni is a little community in west central Mississippi with less than 2,000 residents. There are supposedly ten police officers in the department. When contacted for comment regarding Jackson’s current officer status, the agency did not answer my call.

It’s unknown if he was on duty when he was arrested or how long he has been with the agency. What he was doing in Yazoo City is unknown, according to the police.
