A guy who fired rounds at a pursuing police officer while carjacking a car in a Chicago suburb has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.
On February 12, 2021, David Johnson carjacked a car in Orland Park, Illinois. Johnson came up to the victim, who was sitting in his car on the street outside his house, held a gun at his head, and demanded the key. Johnson took off with the car, taking the police on a fast-paced pursuit into Chicago, where he collided with another vehicle in the Morgan Park area of the city.
After that, Johnson shot at a police officer in Oak Forest, Illinois, who was chasing him while running away on foot.
Shortly after, Johnson was taken into custody by Chicago Police officers. Johnson was serving a court-supervised release sentence after being imprisoned for a previous federal weapons offense at the time of the carjacking.
Johnson, 27, of Chicago, entered a guilty plea to federal charges of carjacking and possessing a handgun earlier this year. The punishment was handed out on Thursday at a hearing in federal court in Chicago by U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin.
