The Cleveland Division of Police member who was from Webster passed away early on Thursday in Ohio while attending to a call.

A call for a man wanted for felonious assault on Cleveland’s east side had sent Jamieson Ritter, 27, to the scene at around 1:30 a.m., when he was shot and killed, an ABC station reported.

Aggravated murder is the charge against the suspect, Delawnte Hardy, 24.

Ritter enlisted in the Army National Guard upon his graduation from McQuaid Jesuit in 2015 and Syracuse University in 2019. November 2020 marked the start of his Cleveland police career. He returned to Cleveland in 2023 following his deployment to Syria in 2022.

Cleveland Division of Police states that Ritter “grew up with profound desire to serve his country and his community.”

According to his family, “from an early age, Jamieson possessed an innate understanding of selfless service to the nation and a strong desire to serve his community.”

“Today is a sad day for our city,” Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd stated. “Ironically, on this day designated for freedom, we are reminded of the evil that tries to impose on our community. However, despite our pain and hurt, we take in the immense sacrifice Officer Ritter gave, and we will honor his memory and compassion. We will continue to carry his legacy in our hearts.”

McQuaid Jesuit stated to Ritter “displayed unwavering dedication and courage while serving his community.”

Jamieson was a living example of the leadership, justice, and service principles that McQuaid Jesuit taught him. The whole McQuaid Jesuit community extends its deepest sympathies to the Ritter family, and we kindly request that during this extremely trying time, everyone remember Jamieson, his loved ones, and the Cleveland Police Department in their thoughts.

2013 saw Jon Ritter’s retirement from the Greece Police Department. In the 2012 Christmas Eve attack on Webster’s Lake Road, which left two West Webster firefighters dead and two injured, the elder Ritter was hit by shrapnel.
