A man who lived on the streets of Ventura for years sexually abused a little child and was sentenced to prison.

Jameson The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office stated on Tuesday that Paul Johnson, 41, of Ventura, had been found guilty of sexually abusing and raping a minor and had been sentenced to 62 years to life in state prison.

According to the authorities, Johnson first saw the little victim in 2005, when she was ten years old. At the time, he and the girl were living on the streets of Ventura.

According to court records, the child was sexually abused starting when she was eleven years old and continued until she was fifteen. Following Johnson’s arrest for allegedly making threats against the girl and her mother, the abuse eventually ended.

When Johnson began to threaten her with letters from prison in 2016, the victim came forward to the authorities about her history of sexual abuse.

That’s when Ventura Police launched an investigation, which led to Johnson’s second arrest related to the case in 2018.

Johnson was found guilty on March 1, 2024, of 13 felonies, including one crime of forced rape, six counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, and six counts of forcible indecent acts upon a child.

Additionally, the jury and judge found that the victim was very vulnerable, that Johnson had significant sex with the victim, and that there had been extreme brutality in the crimes.

Johnson has to register as a sex offender in addition to serving his prison term.

“The defendant’s crimes in this case were unusually violent and brutal,” Rafael Orellana, the Supervising Deputy District Attorney stated. “The lengthy prison sentence imposed will help ensure the safety of the victim and community and appropriately reflects the horrific and sadistic crimes which the defendant perpetrated against the child victim. I am grateful to the jury and judge for their roles in securing justice for the victim.”
