Congressman Dan Kildee's Brother Killed in Michigan Shooting

Timothy Kildee, the brother of Congressman Dan Kildee of Michigan, was shot and killed by police after a domestic dispute.

“Our family is grieving and heartbroken. There are no words to describe the loss of a beloved brother and family member, especially in such a terrible tragedy,” Mr Kildee stated on Tuesday.

Since 2013, the Democrat from Michigan has served in Congress.

“I thank the community for honoring my family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” he continued.

According to Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, Timothy Kildee was killed in Vienna Township, northwest of Detroit, early on March 19, as reported by WNEM.

Tuesday, just before three in the morning, a domestic altercation in Burton prompted a call to the sheriff’s office. The suspect, 27, according to Sheriff Swanson, was a family member who visited the residence where there was a verbal altercation and the display of a pistol.

The suspect then went on foot from the house and made contact with his biological mother, the sheriff continued. The mother picked up her son to take him to his father’s house in Vienna Township, where Timothy Kildee, 57, lived, sometime between the first confrontation and five in the morning.

However, the suspect got out of the car while it was moving, so the mother called Mr. Kildee and they went in search of their kid. Sheriff Swanson reported that another son was sleeping in the basement of the Vienna Township house, as reported by WNEM.

“Give me your wallet and your keys,” the suspect allegedly yelled during a loud dispute, according to the second son. The sheriff reported that the wallet was later found on the suspect.

During the altercation, the son who was in the basement claimed to have heard one gunshot. According to Sheriff Swanson, Mr. Kildee was slain by a bullet.

After allegedly stealing Mr. Kildee’s car, the suspect is said to have crashed at a fast speed into another vehicle in less than eight minutes. Although the other motorist did not sustain any major injuries, the suspect is currently being held at Hurley Hospital under supervision.

There are no additional suspects, according to the sheriff.

WNEM was informed by Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton that no charges have been brought to yet.

However, he pointed out that the suspect might be charged with open murder, carjacking, armed robbery, using a firearm while committing a felony, carrying a concealed weapon, and a motor vehicle infraction if the prosecutor’s office were to “apply the law to the facts as we know them presently.”
