In the first-ever WNBA game played at the Boston Celtics’ TD Garden, on Tuesday night, the Connecticut Sun defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 69-61 thanks to a late 14-0 surge led by DiJonai Carrington.
Less over four minutes remained in the game, and the Sun were behind 59-55, but they rallied behind a franchise-record sellout crowd of 19,125.
Alyssa Thomas’ three-point play was sandwiched between two baskets by Carrington in the lane, and in less than a minute, Connecticut led 62-59 with the fans going wild.
With 1:40 remaining, Tyasha Harris scored a three-pointer to reduce the deficit to 69-56. With two minutes gone, the Storm had committed four turnovers, two missed shots, and two missed free throws.
The Sun (20-7), who triumphed over an 8 of 17 showing at the foul line, were led by Brionna Jones with 15 points and Harris with 14. With 16 rebounds, 8 assists, and 9 points, Thomas was very productive.

Both Azura Stevens and rookie Rickea Jackson led the Sparks (6-22) with 14 points apiece. At the half, the Sun led 41–35, having overcome an early deficit with to double-figure performances from Carrington, Harris, and Jones.
After trailing 11 points in the third quarter, LA closed the gap to 53-46 at the halfway point of the game. After tying the game with seven points in the opening quarter, the Sparks went on a 13-2 run.
