Shortly before she was about to be sentenced for killing her husband and concealing his death for several months while still receiving his paychecks, a 76-year-old widow from Connecticut was discovered dead at her residence on Wednesday.
Shortly after 10:30 a.m., state police were called to Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi’s Burlington residence for a welfare check and announced that they were looking into her “untimely death.” Police and her attorney did not release any other information about the reason of her death, which remained under investigation.
In accordance with a plea agreement, Kosuda-Bigazzi was set to be sentenced to 13 years in prison at Hartford Superior Court on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. for the 2017 death of her 84-year-old husband, Dr. Pierluigi Bigazzi.
Patrick Tomasiewicz, her attorney, stated that she died suddenly.
“We were honored to be her legal counsel and did our very best to defend her in a complex case for the past six years,” he stated. “She was a very independent woman who was always in control of her own destiny.”

In March, Kosuda-Bigazzi entered a guilty plea to manslaughter and theft, after her accusation of murder in relation to Bigazzi’s passing. Bigazzi was a pathology and laboratory science professor at UConn Health. Kosuda-Bigazzi claimed in notes discovered at her home that she killed her husband with a hammer out of self-defense, according to state police. After posting more than $1.5 million in bond, she was set free.
According to police, Kosuda-Bigazzi claimed that she and her husband got into an argument when she informed him that their rear deck needed to be repaired. She said in her letter that after a protracted fight, she was able to take the hammer away from him.
“I hit him just swinging the hammer in any direction + then he was quiet — for a few seconds + then he stopped breathing,” she stated. “I just wanted to slow him down. I sat on the floor by the kitchen cabinets across from the stove — next to him for a long time.”
