After allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from a suspect, the officer who allegedly neglected to activate his body camera during the arrest of professional golfer Scottie Scheffler was placed under arrest.

Just after midnight on Wednesday, Louisville Metro Police Officer Javar Downs discovered an envelope containing roughly $10,000 in cash while searching a man during a traffic stop.

According to the man, Downs kept roughly $4,000 of the money and sent the rest over to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections as evidence.

Downs was arrested at LMDC on allegations of official misconduct and theft, per an arrest citation. Downs faces charges of official misconduct and theft by unauthorized taking more than $1,000.

Chief of Louisville Metro Police Humphrey curtailed Downs’s police powers, put him on immediate suspension, and initiated the process of firing him.

On the morning of the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky, in May, Scheffler was taken into custody by Downs, the arresting officer.
